A sustainable community is a desirable place to live, work, visit and play. At the core, sustainability is about creating an economically strong, socially vibrant, and environmentally healthy community for current and future generations.

Considering Solar? Join the Westminster Solar Co-Op!

The City of Westminster launched Solar Switch Westminster to help homeowners and small businesses understand their solar options and save money and secure a quality rooftop solar installation.

Using group buying and the expertise of nonprofit Solar United Neighbors, Solar Switch ensures that participants get a great deal on solar and battery storage and can make an informed decision.

The Solar Switch Westminster fall program is now open for registrations.

How does Solar Switch work?

Solar Switch organizes groups of homeowners to buy solar, together. By organizing a group purchase for solar panels, Solar Switch can get a better deal for everyone in the group.

  1. Registration Sign up online today. It comes at no cost, and there are no obligations.

  2. Auction: Pre-vetted installers participate in an auction. The best bid wins.

  3. Personal recommendation: Based on your registration details, you'll get a personal recommendation.

  4. Make Your Decision: Once you get the offer, you can decide if you want to accept and proceed with a site survey. If you choose to accept, you will be asked to pay a small deposit towards the full cost of your solar installation.

  5. Installation: If you accept your recommendation, Solar Switch will transfer you to the installer that won the auction. The installer will contact you for a survey and set an installation date. The survey will verify your roof's suitability and result in a final offer.

In the most recent program, homeowners saved an average of $5,800 on a standard-sized solar installation. The federal solar tax credit can further reduce system costs, making solar energy more accessible than ever before. It is free to register, and there is no obligation to purchase a system.

Sustainability News

Clean Air, Clean Yards, Clean Community

Three residents received electric lawn mowers and five residents received electric leaf blowers as part of the Sustainability Office's efforts to improve local air quality and reduce pollution. Through a partnership with Adams County Health Department's Local Entity Air Network (CLEAN) program, Staff provided resources on green landscaping practices at National Night Out and Westy Fest. A giveaway for electric landscaping equipment was held to promote the tax credit available to all Colorado residents, which provides a 30% point-of-sale discount on electric-powered lawn equipment at participating retailers.

Additionally, through this CLEAN partnership, an air quality sensor was installed at Irving Street Library to monitor and inform residents of Westminster’s local air quality. The Sustainability Office aims to support education and action on local air quality through continuing efforts such as these throughout 2025.
