Addtional Short-Term City Projects:

Water Mainline Replacement and Street Resurfacing on Newton Street

Crews will begin prepping the area for construction as soon as mid-June. After the prep work is finished, they will replace a water mainline and complete street resurfacing on Newton Street, stopping at the intersection with W. 72nd Ave. Construction is expected to last through August 2024.

This work will replace the water mainline that has been there since 1968. The new water mainline will improve the reliability of water service, reduce water main breaks, and will provide better water service to Historic Westminster. After the mainline is installed, crews will lay down fresh asphalt, creating a smooth, new road.

During construction, access to the businesses along Newton Street from W. 72nd Ave. will remain open. While construction crews are present, please be patient as it might take them time to move equipment to let drivers in and out of the area.

What to expect:

  • Overnight work:
    • Most of the work will be done overnight, so impact to drivers should be minimal.
  • No Parking Signs along the corridor:
    • Cars left in a “no parking” area will be towed to another part of the street so workers can continue improving the area.
  • Temporary water shut-offs when making the final connections of the line to the water main on 72nd Street
    • Crews will notify you with 48 hours advance notice of a shut-off
    • Construction is unpredictable, in the event of an emergency, water may be shut off to complete emergency repairs.

Who to contact:

If you have questions about the project, please call Utilities Operations at (303) 658-2500.

Franklin Square Project

From late December 2023 until October 2024, crews will be working on updating water main lines in the Franklin Square subdivision. The upgrades should prevent water main breaks and increase water pressure to the area.

While construction is underway, please be mindful of no parking signs. If crews need to shut off water service while they work, they will give residents at least 24 hours notice, unless it's an emergency situation.

Thank you for your patience during this project.
