The city has contracted with Waste Management At Your Door Special Collection, Inc. to collect household hazardous waste directly from your home by appointment FREE of charge within program limits.
How the Program Works:
- Residents must have at least three different materials before scheduling an appointment (it cannot be all paint - see materials list below).
- If you have paint, you must have more than three (3) gallons, in addition to two other materials for disposal.
- Paint - If you have paint, visit PaintCare to find a drop-off site near you.
- To schedule your collection appointment: call 800-449-7587, email AtYourDoor@WM.com, or visit the Waste Management At Your Door website.
- Prior to your appointment date, you will receive a collection bag to place your non-recyclable materials in for pick-up. Recyclable hazardous materials in containers five (5) gallons or smaller must be placed outside of the bag.
- On the date of collection, place materials by your garage or front door before 7 a.m.
Accepted Materials (inside the kit bag):
- Automotive Products: antifreeze, brake fluid, cleaner, motor oil, oil filter, polish, wax, hydraulic fluid, transmission fluid, gasoline, diesel fuel, and oily rags.
- Paint Products: latex paint, oil-based paint, thinner, artist’s paint, stripper, spray paint, wood preservative, stain, caulk, and sealer.
- Mercury: thermostat, thermometer, and switches.
- Household Cleaners: ammonia, cleaning compounds, floor stripper, drain cleaner, tile/shower cleaner, rust remover, and carpet/upholstery cleaner.
- Sharps/Needles: (in a sealed, ridged, puncture resistant container).
- Flammable & Combustible Materials: kerosene, solvent, and certain cleaners.
- Swimming Pool Chemicals: pool acid, stabilizer, and chlorine: tables, liquid.
- Garden Chemicals: Insect spray, weed killer, herbicide, fertilizer, insecticides, and pesticides.
- Misc. Household: batteries and hobby glue.
Accepted Materials (outside the kit bag):
- Vehicle Batteries: Up to five (5).
- Fluorescent Tubes and CFL’s: Up to five (5) - placed inside their original sheaths or taped together.
- Television: Up to one (1),
- OR
- One (1) Computer System: computer, tower/CPU, laptop, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and desktop printer.
Unaccepted Materials:
- Unacceptable Materials: items improperly packaged for transport, unknown/unlabeled materials, containers over five (5) gallons, leaking or empty containers, biological waste, all medicines, construction related materials, asbestos, ammunition, explosives, commercial/business supplies at homes, trash including bulky items, radioactive materials, smoke detectors, liquid mercury, personal hygiene products, appliances, lamp fixtures, pressurized cylinders, fire extinguishers, tires, and cooking oil.
No more than ten (10) – one (1) gallon containers or two (2) – five (5) gallon containers.
When you schedule your collection appointment, the volume restrictions listed above will be verified and if you have materials in excess of the limits, excess materials can be collected for an additional fee.
