How Westminster Residents Can Help Those Affected by the Boulder County Fires

How Westminster Residents Can Help Those Affected by the Boulder County Fires

This story will continue to be updated as City staff learns more about local resources.

Approximately 35,000 residents of Superior, Louisville, and unincorporated Boulder County have been impacted by the recent fires. Here are several ways Westminster residents who are able and willing can help our neighbors:

Volunteering

Adventist Community Services Disaster Response needs dock assistance volunteers for shifts today and into March or longer.

The Donations Center needs the help of strong volunteers, who can lift 45 lbs. and can operate a pallet jack. The location is 21 West Flatirons Crossing, in the old Nordstrom's building. It does not have a sign, however, it is located between Dick's Sporting Goods and Macy's. Please enter on the East Side, register at the Volunteer Desk, and wait for the Project Leader to take you to the dock. Wear clothing you can get dirty and closed toe shoes. Thank you for donating your skills! Click here to sign up for a shift.

  • Do not go to the scene of a disaster to offer help
  • Volunteers will be needed soon, but not for at least 48 hours or more.
  • The arrival of unexpected volunteers and material donations will interfere with response efforts
  • Stay safe by volunteering with a reputable agency

To stay informed on the most recent developments, sign up to receive the Colorado Responds E-newsletter. More information and details on volunteering will be available soon via the E-newsletter.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM BOULDER OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT: Please do NOT enter the evacuation areas (see map). It is still unsafe due to active hot spots, downed power lines and damaged trees at risk of falling. First responders are working as quickly as possible to secure the area, so residents can return to check on their property, but this will take time.

Donate Funds:

FINANCIAL GIFTS ARE THE BEST WAY TO HELP!

  • Make a financial contribution to Boulder Community Foundation
  • Make a financial gift to voluntary agencies responding to disasters
  • Cash allows disaster agencies to purchase exactly what is needed
  • Cash donations allow the agencies to support the economy of the impacted area

Monetary donations should only be made to vetted donation channels for this incident.

Donate Shelter:
If you have shelter to offer displaced residents, please sign up to be a vetted host at Airbnb.com and you will be alerted through the Airbnb Open Homes Program if needed.

Donate Services:
Boulder County has a quick and easy online form to specify how you would like to contribute to relief efforts in the area. Donation categories include discounted or free services. Fill out the form to get started here: https://bouldercounty.wufoo.com/forms/donations/.

To be notified of other volunteer opportunities, consider registering at https://coloradoresponds.communityos.org/.

Donating Goods:

  • No material donations are needed at this time, including food and pet food.

Boulder County Office of Emergency Management asks that household goods be donated to local non-profits or thrift stores.
