Save water and money with the free Grass to Garden program

Save water and money with the free Grass to Garden program

The city’s Grass to Garden program provides free native plants and education to help residents convert a section of their lawn into a waterwise garden.

“Drought and climate change are the greatest threat to our water supply,” said Water Resources Specialist Drew Beckwith. “Water conservation programs like Grass to Garden help residents reduce water bills and beautify their yards, with the added benefit of being one of the most cost-effective ways for the city to protect its water supply.”

Approved applicants will receive free native plants in return for removing a section of grass. Education is provided to help participants do their yard remodel correctly and have a successful waterwise garden.

In 2020, over 500 Westminster water customers saved more than three million gallons through five different free or discounted conservation programs. These programs cost 90% less than purchasing new water supplies and are one of the best ways for the city to maintain a secure water supply.

We’ve budgeted for even greater participation this year, so take advantage of the programs today!

The city partners with Resource Central to offer Grass to Garden and other free or discounted conservation programs.
