Name: Nick Dyer
Occupation: Senior Payroll Coordinator
Past elected offices: N/A
Other leadership positions & community involvement: At work I lead our paperless initiative, focusing on W-2, 1095 and paystub paper reduction. I participate and advocate in biking to work. I am a regular volunteer at my work’s EpicPromise Foundation, which focuses on volunteering in the community up and down the Front Range.
- Why are you the most qualified person for this office? I can disagree with a person on an issue but still respect and work with them. One of the problems in both national and local politics, even with the current City Council, is this dichotomy of “if you’re not with me, you’re against me.” I believe that diversity, different perspectives, and ways of thinking, when brought together and discussed will bring the best solution to an issue. I will bring my unique perspective, and vigorously debate issues considering differing viewpoints to arrive at the best solution. I am open to and will work with the other council members, all while listening to the voice of the city and acting in their best interest.
- What is the most important issue facing Westminster and how will you address it? Weighing growth and development against supporting the current residents and businesses. Especially how the city is dealing with Downtown Westminster. City Council has already gotten the ball rolling on this development, so I want to come in and make sure we do this the best way that considers the voice of local business and residents.
- What do you think the city does well and where do you see room for improvement? Westminster has done a good job at creating and keeping a balanced budget. Where I will work for improvement is getting more community involvement and communication between the council and residents. To best serve the city, we need to have direct communication and feedback with local businesses and residents.
- What is your favorite thing about living in Westminster? My wife and I love spending time outside, and Westminster offers a great variety for us to do just that. You can find us running or biking through our awesome parks and open spaces. Or at one of the many great events the city puts on like the 4th of July Celebration at City Park. Between the events the city hosts and all the options for great parks and open spaces, we absolutely love Westminster.
