Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 18 years of age
  • Driver License and safe driving record
  • Ability to legally work in the United States

Desirable Qualifications:

  • EMT-B or Paramedic Certification

The Westminster Fire Department will be accepting applications for entry level firefighter from August 5 - August 26, 2024. Applications can be found on the city website.

Pass the Job Specific Performance Assessment (JSPA) which is a standardized physical ability test. The JSPA assesses a candidate's ability to perform the physical tasks that will be required of a firefighter on the job. Click here for more information about the JSPA.

The hiring process will first consist of a phone screening interview. The top candidates from the phone screening interview will be invited to attempt the JSPA physical fitness test. Candidates who successfully pass the JSPA will undergo one final in-person interview made up of Fire Department and Human Resources personnel.

Scheduling consideration will be provided for out of state candidates.

The top candidates from the interviews will need to complete a background packet and will undergo a thorough background investigation.

The top candidates from the interviews will be scheduled for a medical examination and a psychological test.

Candidates passing all portions of testing will be subject to a pre-employment drug screen. Upon hiring, new employees will be fingerprinted and criminal histories will be reviewed to meet CJIS guidelines. Employees that are found to have criminal backgrounds at this point may be released.

Candidates that successfully complete the hiring process and are selected for hire will then attend and must successfully complete the North Area Fire Academy. Those who already maintain an EMT certification may need to complete the North Area EMT Academy. Candidates that currently possess a Paramedic certification/license will not be required to attend the EMT course but should plan on obtaining their field internship during the EMT course timeframe. All recruits must successfully complete the North Area Fire Academy.
