Subject: Burglary in Progress - Officer Involved Shooting

Date – September 4, 2018

On September 4, 2018 around 1:05pm Westminster Police were dispatched to the 3300 block of 97th Avenue on a report of a burglary in progress. The homeowner stated he was locked in his bedroom and a male who was armed with a knife was in his home.

Officers arrived at the home and observed one apartment with the door forced open.

A second door was slightly open and as officers began to check this apartment a male, armed with a knife, charged at the officers. Two officers fired their weapons, striking the suspect.

The original homeowner was unharmed.

The male suspect was pronounced deceased on scene. His identity will be released by the Adams County Coroner’s office.

Rocky Mountain Elementary was placed on lockout due to the proximity of the school to the scene. We do not believe there is a danger to the school. Parents will be able to pick up their children as scheduled.

The 17th Judicial Critical Incident Investigation team will be investigating the officer involved shooting. http://adamsbroomfieldda.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Critical-Incident-Investigation-Team.pdf
