City to purchase office building in Historic Westminster for employee workspace

City to purchase office building in Historic Westminster for employee workspace

The city’s workforce has been growing and, according to a city hall space study, more office space is needed as the city’s employees keep working to deliver a high quality of life to residents and businesses.

To make room for staffing changes and have a presence in the Historic Westminster neighborhood, the city plans to purchase a commercial office building at 3621 West 73rd Avenue, near 73rd Avenue and Lowell Boulevard. The building is currently owned by Community Resources and Housing Development Corporation (CRHDC) and is 5,888 square feet on .42 acres.

“We have renovated City Hall and the Municipal Service Center quite a bit and shifted employees around into different and redesigned spaces within the building,” said Director of General Services Matthew Booco. “However, with our organization’s growth as we serve the community, additional office space is necessary. Acquiring this building would be great for the city and our citizens.”

The building is two stories with four separate office suites. CRHDC currently leases office space to two tenants. One tenant plans to move by the end of this year and the other tenant will stay and rent their space from the city through 2022.

The city is in the midst of closing on the sale of the building. Upon finalizing the sale, the city plans to make renovations to the interior and exterior of the building.

“Once the building is ready for us to move in next year, we plan for our Park, Recreation and Libraries Department administration staff based at City Hall to shift over there,” said Booco. “This location will increase that department’s presence in Historic Westminster, support the city’s arts and culture initiative in the community, and enhance their customer service practices.”

City staff from other departments may be based at this location, too, depending on office space and community needs.
