Community rebrands self as ‘Historic Westminster’

Community rebrands self as ‘Historic Westminster’

After many conversations with businesses and community members, a focus group unanimously chose Historic Westminster to be the unified name to represent the southern area of the city.

For some time, there has been a lack of consensus on the name and boundaries of the area of the city roughly south of 80th Avenue and east of Sheridan. Several names have been used to refer to this part of town, primarily South Westminster. Many residents did not look fondly upon this name as they felt it created a separation from the rest of the city.

Staff determined that if the name issue could be resolved, the city and residents could move forward with a common understanding of what the community is and wants to become, sparking more investment and revitalization in the area.

“Economic Development staff contracted with marketing and advertising agency AOR, Inc. to help create marketing and messaging for the area,” said Business Development Manager Stephanie Troller. “AOR and our department engaged with the community via online survey and in-person focus groups to get their input.”

After many conversations with businesses and community members, the focus group unanimously chose Historic Westminster to be the unified name to represent the area.

The target audience for the branding will include new and long-term residents of Historic Westminster, metro-wide residents and visitors, out-of-state visitors, businesses and developers.

“The marketing messaging that was created communicates the area’s potential and attracts restaurants, shops, and small businesses that were identified in the survey and focus group as needed in the community,” said Troller.

Through this process, a brand identity was created based on the group’s values and information provided during the meeting, while the messaging and marketing builds upon the unique and historic assets of the area.

The new brand for Historic Westminster was revealed to stakeholders at a community meeting.
