Council gives initial OK to water rate increase proposal

Westminster City Council on Monday, Sept. 24, approved by a 5-1 vote an increase in water and sewer rates and tap fees for 2019-20 to fund critical needs in our water and sewer system. Councillor Dave DeMott voted no; Mayor Pro Tem Maria De Cambra is absent on maternity leave.

The vote was on the first reading of ordinances increasing the rates and tap fees. The vote for second reading of the ordinances is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 8. Rates and fees would become effective on Jan. 1, 2019, and Jan. 1, 2020.

For more information on the rate increase, its impact on utility bills and how it will help the city deliver on its commitment to provide safe, reliable water and sewer service to residents and businesses, please see the city website.
