Council Votes to end Westminster's State of Emergency

The Westminster City Council voted on Monday August 23, 2021 to end the state of emergency that was declared on March 12, 2020 due to the COVID-19 public health emergency.  The City will continue to follow the latest public health guidance and work closely with state and county public health officials. Should the need arise, the Mayor may declare another state of emergency.

Prior to the termination of the state of emergency, the city extended the Expanded Area of Business (EAB) program until November 30, 2021, to ensure Westminster restaurants and bars can continue to recover economically from the pandemic. The EAB program allows Westminster restaurants and bars to expand into designated outdoor areas adjacent to their businesses in order to promote social distancing and public health measures related to COVID-19. For more information about the city’s programs to help local businesses recover from the pandemic, please review the city’s COVID-19 Reopening and Resources page

A state of emergency declaration is a temporary measure that affords the Mayor, City Manager, and city staff temporary authority to take action that ensures the continuity of city operations, and use funds to mitigate the impact to residents and the city during an emergency.
