Decision on boating at Standley Lake expected by end of year

Staff updated City Council on Monday, Oct. 7 on the latest activities of the Standley Lake Boating Taskforce.

The Standley Lake Boating Taskforce has been meeting since April 2019 with the purpose of evaluating options for restoring trailered boats to the lake without compromising the quality of the drinking water. This citizen-led taskforce has been studying a combination of several procedures and products that together could achieve the group’s intended purpose of restoring trailered boating while maintaining the water quality of the lake.

The taskforce will review the current research into these various systems and will make recommendations to staff by the end of October.

Following these recommendations, staff will prepare an overview for the City Manager’s review.

The City Manager’s Office will keep City Council and the public apprised.

The city plans to announce the final decision for the 2020 boating season by the end of this year.

The city continues to have ongoing negotiations with the cities of Northglenn and Thornton regarding the renewal of the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA). This IGA regulates the recreational use of our shared drinking water supply.

We were recently notified by one of the city’s partners of their concerns with the impact of boating on their drinking water supply.

The city will post updates on the status of our IGA negotiations as well.
