Grant funds available for neighborhood beautification projects

Grant funds available for neighborhood beautification projects

Let’s make the City of Westminster more beautiful. That’s the intent behind the Neighborhood Landscape Enhancement Grant offered by the city to fund streetscape projects that improve the appearance and quality of life of individual neighborhoods. If you have a spot in mind, the city encourages you to apply before the deadline of Wednesday, March 3, 2021.

The program provides matching funds to residents or organizations who want to beautify their neighborhood. The program has been around for many years and has funded community flower gardens, a community patio, turf reductions outside businesses, pop-up parks in Historic Westminster, and island redesigns for Home Owner Associations.

One such project was recently completed in Vista Ridge near 104th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard. The project was led by Westminster resident Charlotte Sullivan and transformed a high-water use, high-maintenance neighborhood entryway into a water-wise xeriscape project.

“Community volunteers, our local contractor and resident landscape consultants helped changed our entry into an overwhelming success,” said Sullivan. “Thanks to the city’s grant, we now have a beautiful, water-wise, mountain meadow rock garden with native plants, boulders, colorful rocks, sculptures and a bench.”

The theme for projects should promote sustainability and connectivity. The city encourages the reduction of outdoor water use since drought conditions are continue and potentially worsen this year, so these projects are perfect for both city, neighborhood, and residents’ goals.

“The city is happy to help get these projects off the ground and create a sense of community,” said Senior Landscape Architect John Vann. “We still have some spots available to use grant funds, so fill out an application today!”
