Holiday Recycling Guide
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! As you enjoy the holidays with friends and family, here are a few tips to help you reduce waste throughout the season.
Recycle your Christmas tree
Westminster residents may recycle Christmas trees at the lower parking lot of City Park Fitness Center (10475 Sheridan Blvd.) from December 25, 2022 to January 24, 2023. This lot is self-service so you may visit at any time. Please remove ornaments and plastic bags before disposal.
Properly dispose of holiday lights
Businesses like Lowes and SustainAbility (6240 W 54th Ave., Arvada, CO) will accept holiday lights for free and ensure that they are properly recycled.
Compost your food scraps
Food waste increases significantly during the holidays. Use what you can and compost the rest! SustainAbility in Arvada will take up to five gallons of compost for a small fee.
Limit electronic waste
When upgrading your TVs, laptops, and other electronics, be sure to donate or recycle the old versions. Find a recycling center near you or schedule a pick up from SustainAbility.
Use recyclable gift wrap
Most metallic or glittery wrapping paper is not recyclable. Instead, look for paper made from recycled materials, or use Kraft paper.
Reuse what you can
Ribbons, bows, and gift bags are all examples of items that can be reused for future gifts and decorations.
The City of Westminster is here to assist you with any waste related questions. Call 303-658-2400 or email HHWhotline@westminsterco.gov for additional resources.
