New parking management strategies coming
As development and use has increased in the Downtown Westminster and the Westminster Station areas, the city is moving forward with plans to help manage accessibility and supply of parking in both areas.
The city has already built significant parking infrastructure in both of these areas. There are parking structures at each and multiple surface parking lots that are serving residents, businesses, visitors and transit users.
Parking has been strategically located away from public view, whenever possible, and the city has minimized the use of curb cuts with wrap structures around the parking garages to support our vision of a welcoming community.
With use in these areas increasing, the city will be implementing the next steps in its parking management process. City staff is in the final stages of creating a framework around parking management, which may include:
- Time restrictions for parking in selected areas
- Paid parking areas as well as complimentary parking for a limited time in parking garages and surface lots
- Parking citations, appeals and collection protocols
- Enhanced parking availability and wayfinding
The city will continue to collect data and make appropriate adjustments as the parking program is implemented.
