The city maintains 1,135 miles of streets to support the quality of life of residents, support the local economy and reduce long-term costs.
The Public Works and Utilities Department assesses the condition of streets every year using laser, GPS and crack recognition technologies. A pavement management system is used to identify the most cost effective repairs based on the condition of every street. The city’s overall street condition is “fair” according to these pavement management studies.
The city is investing $4.5 million in 2020 to preserve and improve city streets. An annual investment of $10 million is needed to maintain the current condition of city streets.
