9/10/18 Traffic Stop

Date – September 10, 2018

Sunday morning September 9, 2018 around 9:20am Westminster Police Officers attempted to stop a car for expired license plates.  As the officer approached the car, the male diver rolled up his window until it was cracked and refused to provide officers with a driver’s license, registration or proof of insurance.  The male driver told officers he did not have to provide the requested information to them and requested a supervisor.

The on duty Sergeant responded to the scene.  Officers determined the male driver was driving on a suspended license and did not have proof of insurance for the car. The male driver was told numerous times he was under arrest, however he refused to exit the car.  The male driver had rolled down the window and officers were able to unlock the car, open the door and remove the driver. The male was placed into custody.

During this time officers observed there were several small children in the car. Officers stayed on scene with the children, opening the back door and adjusting a sun shade to shield one of the children.

Two males rapidly approached the car and officers. At this time the back door of the car was shut because officers did not know what the intent of the males was.  A short time later a family member arrived to take custody of the children.

The male was taken into custody on the following charges;

Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance

Displayed Expired License plate

Obstructing a Police Officer

Resisting Arrest

Drove Vehicle While License under Restraint
