City awarded two traffic signal system improvements grants

The city has recently been selected to receive two Denver Regional Council of Governments Regional Transportation Operations and Technology grants totaling $729,031, supported by a local match of $70,794. These grants support the city’s ongoing implementation of citywide transportation improvements to improve the safety, reliability and sustainability of the transportation system.

A portion of these funds will be used to replace critical aging traffic signal infrastructure at 76 intersections in the city. This new infrastructure will reduce signal outages and intersection safety and operations.

The funds will also be used to add cameras and data collection equipment at 38 intersections. This new technology will increase the city’s real-time roadway and traffic signal monitoring capabilities and expand the ability to collect and analyze traffic operations data.

The grants are in addition to the state grant funds the city was awarded earlier this year for replacement of additional critical traffic signal infrastructure and intersection safety improvements.

Work associated with both grants will begin in late 2021.
