City successfully in compliance with stormwater permit

In November 2019, the city’s Stormwater staff conducted an internal compliance audit with the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit. This voluntary internal audit produced 19 findings, 17 of which have been corrected. These findings were largely related to documentation clarifications.

In 2016, staff conducted an internal audit and found 53 compliance discrepancies. The reduction from 53 compliance discrepancies to now just two findings is a significant accomplishment for the city to have achieved in three years.

The city is required to comply with the state-issued permit consisting of five categories related to stormwater discharges: municipal facilities, illicit discharges, construction sites, post-construction treatment systems, and public education.

With direction and support from executive leadership, department staff, and specifically the efforts of Stormwater Analyst Jake Moyer, the city has been brought into compliance with this federally mandated permit.
