Fire Department wants you for the Citizen Academy
Want to learn about all of the aspects of the Westminster Fire Department? If so, check out the Westminster Fire Department Citizen Academy! Learn about fire and medical response in our community plus emergency preparedness, water rescue, urban search and rescue, extrication and more. Participants get the chance to ride along with a fire crew and try on the gear, plus learn some practical tips to use at home.
The Citizen Academy is a free 13-week course that gives citizens an overview of fire department services. Class topics include:
- History of fire and emergency medical services
- Station tours and a ride-along
- Fire behavior
- Hazardous materials and response
- Fire stream demonstration
- Aerial ladder climb
- Fire investigations
- Emergency management
Classes are held on Thursday evenings, 6-10 p.m., March 5 through May 28.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and are subject to a background check. The session is limited to 20 participants and preference is given to Westminster residents.
