5…4…3…2…1! With the pull of a switch, the annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony filled the night with the glow of bright, festive lights. Around 2,500 people attended the ceremony at the City Hall and Public Safety Center (PSC) plazas on December 7.

Santa arrived via fire truck to kick off the festivities and asked girls and boys if they were good this year. Mayor Herb Atchison and members of City Council counted down to the official lighting of City Hall and the PSC for the season. The city’s Fire Department maintained several bonfires and the School of Rock Broomfield played classic and new holiday tunes for the crowd.

Also performing at the event were the Standley Lake High School marching band, Wayne Carl Middle School band, the Westminster Dance Company, Westminster Public Schools’ Children’s Choir, Crown Pointe Academy, Mad About Hoops and Jefferson Academy.

“We had about 40 community volunteers and 20 Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department staff help make the event a success that day,” said Special Events Marketing Coordinator Mikayla Hudak. “We also want to give a huge thanks for all the hard work the Parks staff did to put up the lights, tree and decorations in the City Hall and PSC plazas.”

The City Hall grounds will be lit every evening from now until Sunday, Jan. 12
