Look out for new bike lanes along West 88th Avenue

Cyclists will be able to enjoy more access to city roads this fall as bike lanes will be added to West 88th Avenue between Harlan Street and Wadsworth Parkway in early to mid-September.

The new bike lanes are integral to the city's maintenance plans and created in coordination with the city’s 2030 Bicycle Master Plan, Downtown Westminster Mobility Study, Mobility Action Plan, and the current development of the Transportation & Mobility Plan,

The city maintains over 1,100 miles of streets to support the quality of life of residents, support the local economy and reduce long-term costs. This maintenance includes resurfacing West 88th Avenue in 2020 to provide a smoother driving surface:

Westbound West 88th Avenue

  • Harlan Street to Lamar Drive: One of the existing westbound lanes will be repurposed as a new buffered bike lane along the north side of the street
  • Lamar Drive to Wadsworth Parkway: A new bike lane will be added along the north side of the street

Eastbound West 88th Avenue

  • Wadsworth Parkway to Harlan Street: A new bike lane will be added along the south side of the street
  • At Harlan Street: A left turn lane for bicyclists will be added

The bike lanes provide a safer and more connected option for current and future bicyclists traveling between neighborhoods, trails and other destinations, as well as increase driver awareness of bicyclists traveling along the streets. Businesses along West 88th Avenue will remain accessible during construction.

Bicyclists: Please use caution when crossing the railroad tracks, at intersections, driveways and bus stops.

Drivers: Before turning into driveways or at intersections, please look for and yield to bicyclists in the bike lanes and pedestrians and bicyclists crossing the street or driveways.
