The city and its meter replacement contractor, UMS, is closely monitoring the dynamic situation of COVID-19 and is committed to protecting the health and well-being of our community.
The meter replacement project will continue with UMS and their meter installers while taking precautionary steps, such as:
- Installers will use a liberal amount of hand sanitizer or wash their hands with soap and water for 20 seconds.
- Installers will also sanitize all tools, handhelds and project-specific devices at the end of each day with a disinfectant.
Residents are not required to interact with meter installers face-to-face. A door hanger with additional information will be left on the residents’ door after the new meter is installed. Most importantly, residents may have air in the water line after the new meter is installed. This air can be flushed out by running cold water through a faucet for a few minutes.
Over 3,000 water meters have already been installed as part of this $14 million project to replace over 30,000 residential and small commercial meters in 2020.
