Water meter installers will be replacing about 300 meters in three locations in the city later this month: southwest of 88th Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard, southwest of 94th Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard and southwest of Simms Street and 108th Avenue. Residents impacted by this work received a postcard about the project last fall.

After those areas are complete, installers will then replace about 400 meters located throughout the city that currently require manual meter reads. After those meters are replaced, the installers will begin working one neighborhood at a time. Installers will begin on the western edge of the city and move east before heading to the northern end of the city. All residents will receive a postcard before installers begin working in their neighborhood.

Since the meter is outside, installers do not need to enter homes and residents do not need to be present when they replace the meter. If a resident is home and using water, the installer will coordinate with the resident to shut water service off for 30 to 45 minutes while they replace the meter or come back at a later time. Residents will receive a notice on their door when the meter replacement is complete at their property.

This work is part of a $14 million project that will replace over 30,000 residential and small commercial water meters. The new meters will replace aging infrastructure, reduce maintenance costs and improve customer service by giving customers more timely information about their water usage. This meter replacement project will be complete in about a year and is one of many projects the city is investing in to provide safe, reliable water and wastewater service for current and future generations.
