The owner of the property at 8200 W. 106th Ave. (southeast corner of West 106th Avenue and Balsam Street) is requesting an amendment to the site’s Preliminary Development Plan (PDP) and Official Development Plan (ODP). The owner seeks to modify the allowed uses on the lot to include a Tibetan Buddhist Temple and related uses in addition to the existing single-family residence.
The applicant representing the property owner is hosting a community meeting to present the development proposal and address questions from the community on Monday, April 29, at 6:30 p.m. at the City Park Recreation Center, 10455 Sheridan Blvd.
The amendment request will designate the western portion of the site for the construction of a Tibetan Buddhist Temple, and the accessory uses related to the temple including limited lodging and cooking facilities for temple guests, a wall around the temple structure, parking and gardens. The ODP amendment would allow for the conversion of the existing garage into a meditation classroom. In addition, the ODP amendment would allow for the construction of a parking lot, prayer wall featuring Buddhist prayer wheels, landscaping and drainage systems.
These improvements are planned to be constructed beginning in or around 2024.
