Some city facilities set to reopen in phases

As the number of COVID-19 cases in the city and state begin to decline, the city will reopen some city recreation facilities, recreation programs and City Hall.

“With the success of the city’s summer camp program and overwhelmingly positive response to the opening of Countryside Pool, we want to start to reopen city facilities, slowly, and in accordance with the state and county health orders,” said Parks, Recreation and Libraries Director Jason Genck.

The city has implemented rigorous cleaning procedures for all city facilities. Learn more about the city’s processes and dedication to cleaning.

The first to reopen is City Park Fitness Center at 10475 Sheridan Blvd on Tuesday, Sept. 8. The weight room and locker room will be open to the public via a reservation system whereas patrons can reserve a specific time slot to preserve social distancing. Patrons will be required to wear a face mask at all times while in the facility. Equipment will be disinfected after each use.

On Monday, Sept. 14, the Swim and Fitness Center will open to the public for lap swimming. Each lap lane will have a maximum of one lap swimmer unless the swimmers are from the same household. The locker room will also be open, however the rest of the facility will be closed.

The city’s two libraries, Irving Street and College Hill, will begin offering the public access to the computers starting Monday, Sept. 14. Computers will be available for one-hour sessions at both libraries, Sunday through Friday. Six computers have been set up at each library, with six feet social distancing between each computer.

Patrons will be able to reserve a computer session online or over the phone. Patrons will be required to wear masks while in the building and the computers will be cleaned after each session.

The rest of the library will remain closed. Curbside pickup of materials on hold will continue five days a week.

State-licensed preschool classes will begin on Thursday, Sept. 17 at City Park Recreation Center, the Swim and Fitness Center, and West View Recreation Center. This program will be run under the State of Colorado Child Care licensing guidelines. Learn more about the 2020-21 preschool program. Countryside Pool opened on July 3 and plans to remain open through Oct. 4.

City Hall and part of the Municipal Service Center plans to reopen to some employees starting Monday, Oct. 12. The facilities will remain closed to the public during this initial phase as city staff ensure safety protocols are in place and working. City Hall should be open to the public by appointment later this Fall.
