Westy Front Porch Food Drive brings in 17 tons of donations for food pantry

Westy Front Porch Food Drive brings in 17 tons of donations for food pantry

The Westy Front Porch Food Drive was an initiative the city started in May to help keep Growing Home, a local food pantry, stocked with non-perishable food and toiletries during the COVID-19 pandemic. The food drive was sponsored by St. Anthony North Health Campus.

The event wrapped up on Saturday, Oct. 31 with the Westminster community donating 34,338 pounds of food throughout the event.

The event consisted of both front porch pickups on Saturday mornings throughout the summer and into fall. There were also drop off sites such as the Crossing Church of the Nazarene, Westminster Calvary, Westminster Kiwanis, and even St. Anthony North Health Campus had drop off locations for employees to donate.

The city even kicked off the 4th of July “Besty of Westy” Spirit Week by challenging residents to participate in the food drive events. Staff and volunteers picked up over 4,074 pounds of food and hygiene items.

Thanks to the Westminster community for their donations and support for each other during these difficult times.
